President Shapton called the meeting to order at 7:02 p.m. on Wednesday October 29, 1987 in the Faculty Lounge of the Memorial Union.

Roll: Twenty two members/alternates were present. Absent were: Phyllis Boutilier, Charles Joyner, Ralph Hodek, J. Kalliokoski, William Predebon, Willie Melton. Alternates present were Rodney Lizak and Gary Lyon.

Visitors: None.

Minutes of Meeting No. 157 were approved with one correction to the Senate roster (Appendix A - Available by Request from the Senate Office).

Committee Reports

A. Curricular Policy - No report.

B. Instructional Policy - (Appendix D - Available by Request from the Senate Office).

Note: This report includes a memo sent to all faculty by V.P. Whitten, dated 10/1/87, Re: the current (new) grading system.

A new proposal was submitted by the committee, Proposal 2-88, Re: Procedure for Dropping a Course. This new procedure would replace portions of an earlier procedure accepted by the Senate (4-86). There was some discussion of the present and proposed drop procedures.

E. Faculty Fringe Benefits - No report.

F. Elections - No report.

G. Faculty Handbook - No report.

I. General Education - No report.

J. Computer Fee Policy - (Appendix F - Available by Request from the Senate Office).

This report included a definition of the Charge to a University Committee on Campus-Wide Computer strategy along with a structure for the membership of the committee. After some discussion the report was accepted and is to be forwarded to President Stein with the charge and structure for his consideration.

K. Quality of University Life Task Force - Appendix G - Available by Request from the Senate Office).
